Calculate Number of Bricks Required

How This Brick Calculator Works

This brick calculator uses the volume method. It first calculates the wall volume and then divides it by the volume of one standard modular brick with mortar. The calculator uses Indian standard modular brick size of 190 mm × 90 mm × 90 mm. With mortar, the nominal size is generally taken as 200 mm × 100 mm × 100 mm.

Formula Used for Brick Calculation

Wall volume = Length × Height × Thickness

Number of bricks = Wall volume ÷ Volume of one brick with mortar

For Indian standard modular brick with mortar, one brick volume is approximately 0.002 cubic meter. Therefore, 1 cubic meter of brick masonry usually requires around 500 bricks.

Half Brick Wall and One Brick Wall Meaning

A half brick thick wall is generally about 100 mm thick and is commonly used for partition walls. A one brick thick wall is generally about 200 mm thick and is used where more strength and thickness are required.

Step-by-Step Guide to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter the wall length.
  2. Select meter or feet from the unit dropdown.
  3. Enter the wall height.
  4. Select the wall thickness: half brick or one brick.
  5. Select wastage allowance if needed.
  6. Click on Calculate Bricks to get the required number of bricks.

Important Notes for Users

  • This calculator gives an approximate brick quantity for planning and estimation.
  • Actual quantity may vary due to brick size, mortar thickness, wall openings, workmanship, and wastage.
  • Deduct door, window, and ventilator openings separately for more accurate estimation.
  • Always add 5% to 10% extra bricks for breakage and site wastage.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many bricks are required in 1 cubic meter?

Approximately 500 modular bricks are required in 1 cubic meter of brick masonry when mortar thickness is included.

What is the Indian standard brick size?

The standard modular brick size in India is 190 mm × 90 mm × 90 mm. With mortar, the nominal size is taken as 200 mm × 100 mm × 100 mm.

How many bricks are needed for a 100 mm thick wall?

A 100 mm thick wall is treated as a half brick wall. The number of bricks depends on wall length and height. Use the calculator above for instant results.

How many bricks are needed for a 200 mm thick wall?

A 200 mm thick wall is treated as a one brick wall. Enter wall length and height in the calculator to find the approximate quantity.
